Tash Sulatana Lyric book
Tash Sultana is a young psychedelic rock musician. They are a solo-artist that plays 20 instruments, and is only 24 years old. The assignment was to choose any artist and design a lyric book that interprets our personal expression of the artist. My process is unwinding to the music, as a form of meditation. One song at a time, on repeat, I develop an encompassing form and add details after dividing the abstract form.

The Challenge
My biggest challenge was to connect her lyrics to the illustrations I was drawing for each song. For example, the song Notion uses the ocean as a metaphor for the depth of human emotions, and in the illustration I focused on wavy lines and swirls that waves make. Another example, the song Blackbird she describes flying a feather; so I drew a feather as my starting point and would branch from the angle of a small feather and extend it from there.
